My shopping strats & top picks (so far) for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale!

My shopping strats & top picks (so far) for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale!

So my approach to the biggest annual sales is simple:  identify items that you can stock up on, save on, or splurge a little on.  Here are my thoughts (so far) on this year’s Annual Sale at Nordstrom:

Stock Up
You know those bags you love but don’t show enough love to?  The ones that you spend a pretty penny on because they’re great in terms of size & style for going out for drinks, traveling with or schlepping to and from work, but wind up damaged and dirty because, well, you’ve taken them out so much, travelled all over with them and schlepped them to & from work every day?  Nordstrom’s BP. bags are PERFECT substitutes for this very problem!  Their faux pebbled leather can totally pass for a legit style and better yet?  They’re environmentally friendly and can withstand NYC snow & slush (trust me – I carried a large tote from this line to & from work every day this past winter, haven’t cleaned it off yet, and still get compliments on it).  This means you can buy one or two and not feel guilty donating or tossing them if they really do take a beating after one or two seasons.  This is one of the few times I’ve seen very good quality at such a low price.
Best part of these Nordstrom styles (that are already fairly inexpensive)?  Most are on sale at even deeper discounts!  See below for a few faves for Fall:
Save
This is always my go-to sale for outerwear and any Fall items.  Everything is marked down a ton – even on the best brands! This is true not just at the Nordstrom sale but at most retailers at this time of year FYI.  They’re all cycling in their new Fall merchandise and need to get rid of leftovers from last season.  A few faves:
  • Leather Jackets
  • Patagonia Puff Jacket
  • Ted Baker London Coat | This might be a bit of a splurge but if your goal is to channel Princess Kate and have a beautiful go-to for YEARS, this is the ticket!
  • The North Face Thermoball Jacket | So I bought this jacket last winter during a holiday sale along with not one, not two, but FIVE of my co-workers because it’s so amazing (one co-worker even owns it in two colors).  It has easily become one of my best cold weather purchases in years.  It is SO incredibly warm and SO incredibly easy to move in.  Not insulated enough for sub-zero days, but anything above 20 degrees and I was warm & cozy trudging through the streets of Manhattan.  Best part – I didn’t feel like I was wearing a sleeping bag!
This sale is also a great one for denim!  Not all deals are phenomenal (I’m convinced the Rag & Bone’s styles will go lower somewhere), but on TopShop, Blank NYC and (my fave) J Brand, there are great deals to be had!  My go-to for years has been the J Brand 811’s (order true-to-size, I promise they stretch!).

Splurge!

This sale is a great time to score big deals on items that rarely go on sale.  Now, just because it’s a big deal doesn’t mean the prices are still inexpensive.  Leather jackets, high-end shoes and some beauty items rarely get big markdowns and they’re always pretty expensive, so, if you have a little extra cash to burn (or have been saving & waiting patiently for this sale to kickoff), here’s your opportunity!  Here are a few of my favorite finds:
Happy shopping!

PS – A little fun fact for New Yorkers like me who are still stuck only enjoying this sale online: You can purchase from Norstrom.com and return items to the Nordstrom Rack in the city!  The site does offer free returns, but it could save you a trip to the post office.
